If you’re looking for a way to satisfy a pizza craving without ordering pizza, this pita pizza recipe is for you. Instead of making dough, you can use pita as a crust and add your favorite toppings. It’s the best shortcut and a fun way to make pizza at home.

As much as I try to eat healthier, pizza is always a real temptation. So instead of denying myself, I like to make this pita bread pizza. It’s a really easy way to get all the pizza flavors, but in a smaller size, so I don’t overdo it.

It’s a little harder than ordering a pizza, but it’s definitely easier than making a pizza from scratch. You skip the whole dough part with the pita and just top them with the toppings and bake. It’s easy, delicious, and great if you’re trying to avoid the pizza delivery.

How to Make Pizza with Pita Bread

Place the pita pockets on a baking sheet and top each of them with two tablespoons of pizza sauce. Spread the sauce over the top, leaving some space around the edge.

Sprinkle a ¼ cup of shredded cheese over the top of the sauce and then layer on your toppings.

Bake the pita pizzas for eight to ten minutes at 425°F or until they are hot and the cheese is melted. Slice and enjoy!

Pita Pizza Topping Ideas

You can make your pizzas with so many toppings. Any regular pizza topping you like will work, and you can get creative with how you mix and match them.

Because the pizzas aren’t very big, you don’t need many toppings for each pizza. I like to add sauce, cheese, and up to three toppings to mine. Here are some ideas you might want to try.

Sauce: We love red pizza sauce, but you can also use a white sauce like Alfredo or just some olive oil if you want to keep the sauce light.

Cheese: Try shredded mozzarella, Provolone, cheddar, or even Gruyere. I also like to sprinkle some grated Parmesan over our pizzas for some extra flavor and texture. You can also add crumbled blue cheese or feta.

Meat: Pepperoni, cooked sausage, cooked bacon, Canadian bacon, ham, or diced or shredded chicken.

Veggies: Thinly sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, jalapeno, red onion, chopped fresh spinach, diced tomatoes, and sliced olives are some great vegetables to add that don’t need precooking. Other vegetables may need to be cooked before you add them to your pizza.

Fruit: Sometimes, we add fruit to our pizzas – pineapple, pears, even sliced apples can be delicious.

Herbs and Seasonings: Sprinkle chopped fresh herbs like parsley, thyme, rosemary, or basil. Or use your favorite dried herbs and seasonings.

You can mix and match toppings to create so many different kinds of pizza pita. You don’t have to have it the same way twice if you don’t want to!

For your next pizza night, put the delivery menu away and try these easy pita pizzas instead. Make them all the same or make a variety with different toppings. It’s a great way to get a pizza fix – enjoy!
