This is the Best Egg Salad Recipe has always been one of our go-to recipes for many many years. My mom would always have endless supplies of eggs on hand and instead of baking we would always whip up some fried egg sandwiches or this Classic Egg Salad recipe!

My secret ingredient has always been sugar. I know some people turn there nose up at the thought of adding a little sweetness to a normally savory recipe, but I love adding it. It is perfect quick and easy lunch idea, dinner solution or picnic meal, these sandwiches or wraps are perfect for everyone!

Ingredients Needed

  • Hard Boiled Eggs: You need large eggs that have been hard-boiled.
  • Condiments: You can pick and choose your favorites, but I used mayo, mustard and sweet pickle relish.
  • Sugar: Balances out with a little sweetness.

Variations

  • You could add some chopped red onion, chopped celery, fresh herbs, or fresh parsley, or chopped chives. Even green onion or avocado adds tons of flavor.
  • This easy egg salad recipe is also delicious with chopped dill pickles for crunch!

How to Make Egg Salad

  • Chop eggs. Add your hard boiled eggs to medium sized bowl and mash up with a pastry blender or fork.
  • Add in mayonnaise, mustard, relish, sugar, salt and black pepper and stir to combine.

How to Hard Boil Eggs

  • Stovetop: Place large eggs in a saucepan with cold water and bring to a rolling boil and cook about 12 minutes.
  • You can cook eggs in a pressure cooker (instant pot) using the egg setting.
  • Old eggs peel easier than fresh ones (but since you’re making egg salad you don’t need to worry if they fall apart).

How to Serve Egg Salad

  • Make egg salad sandwiches on a bun or bread or even on toast or on an English Muffin.
  • Serve with crackers as a dip
  • You can even serve on a tortilla as a wrap or on lettuce for lettuce wraps.

Expert Tips

  • If you add mustard, you can add any kind that is your favorite. Wether that’s yellow mustard or dijon mustard. Anything tastes great.
  • Store egg salad in the refrigerator for up to a few days. I do not recommend freezing it.
