We adore all those good old fashioned recipes. Especially when those recipes are super simple to whip up and are full of flavor.

Let me tell you, back in the day those people really knew how to cook and bake. I have never met an old fashioned recipe that I didn’t like and this applesauce cake recipe is no exception.

What ingredients do you need to make Applesauce Spice Cake?

  • Flour
  • Cinnamon
  • Allspice
  • Nutmeg
  • Cloves
  • Salt
  • Baking soda
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Egg
  • Applesauce

I know, I know looking at that list it doesn’t at first glance “look” like an easy recipe, but it really is. If you do any type of fall baking then you most likely have all those spices in your cupboard already, I know we do!

Other fun additions that some people choose to add or omit are raisins and chopped nuts. Now my kids aren’t big on either of those so this time we didn’t add them to our applesauce cake recipe, but feel free to add about 1/2 cup of each to the batter.

  1. The ingredients say, baking soda and the directions say baking powder. Is the directions or recipe and error? Please let me know which one is correct. I want to make this recipe for my husband. He loves Applesauce Cake. Thank you

  2. I’ve made this three times so far and love it. Thanks. I have bee using baking soda in my mix and it works fine. I also spread cream cheese on it when eating,

  3. 5 stars
I made this using both baking soda and powder because I had already added the soda before I realized it should probably be powder. So I added baking powder just to be on the safe side. It came out beautifully and very delicious.

  4. Is this cake not supposed to rise much in the center? I ended up using both baking soda and baking powder and it looks okay 👍🏽
