INGREDIENTS NEEDED

  • Flour: All-purpose flour is the main base for this cake. Be sure to measure it correctly, by spooning the flour into the measuring cup and leveling it off.
  • Spices: Ground Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves, and Allspice all combine together to create the perfect fall flavor.
  • Butter: Unsalted butter is best for baking, but if you use salted butter, reduce the added salt.
  • Applesauce: Use unsweetened applesauce because the granulated sugar is enough sweetness in the recipe.

Variations

  • Add some diced apples into the cake mixture (make sure the apples are diced small).
  • You could add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans or raisins.

I made this using both baking soda and powder because I had already added the soda before I realized it should probably be powder. So I added baking powder just to be on the safe side. It came out beautifully and very delicious.
