Applesauce Cake on a white plate

Applesauce cake is a fun flavorful recipe that has the perfect balance of sweetness and spice making it a fun and truly filling cake.

We adore all those good old fashioned recipes. Especially when those recipes are super simple to whip up and are full of flavor.

Let me tell you, back in the day those people really knew how to cook and bake. I have never met an old fashioned recipe that I didn't like and this applesauce cake recipe is no exception.

What ingredients do you need to make Applesauce Spice Cake?

    • Flour
    • Cinnamon
    • Allspice
    • Nutmeg
    • Cloves
    • Salt
    • Baking soda
    • Butter
    • Sugar
    • Egg
    • Applesauce

I know, I know looking at that list it doesn't at first glance "look" like an easy recipe, but it really is. If you do any type of fall baking then you most likely have all those spices in your cupboard already, I know we do!

Other fun additions that some people choose to add or omit are raisins and chopped nuts. Now my kids aren't big on either of those so this time we didn't add them to our applesauce cake recipe, but feel free to add about 1/2 cup of each to the batter.

    • Add in your egg and mix well until blended.
    • Stir in your applesauce until combined.
    • Stir in your dry ingredients until just incorporated and then spread into prepared baking pan and bake for about 50-60 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.

I love recipes, especially dessert recipes that have simple ingredients and come out to have just so much flavor, those ones are the true winners!

I made this using both baking soda and powder because I had already added the soda before I realized it should probably be powder. So I added baking powder just to be on the safe side. It came out beautifully and very delicious.
