Ingredients for a snack mix are displayed: a small bowl of melted butter, corn chips, taco seasoning, pretzels, Rice Chex, and Corn Chex, all in separate bowls on a white surface. Several pieces are scattered around.

Ingredients

  • Chex Cereal: The most important ingredient! You can use any kinds of cereal you like but we often use a combination of Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, and/or Corn Chex.
  • Taco Seasoning: This is a spicy Mexican-inspired snack mix that uses store bought seasoning.
  • Other Crunchy Mix-Ins: We usually add pretzel twists and corn chips (like Fritos) to this recipe. You can also add peanuts or almonds, mixed nuts, regular-size bagel chips, Crispix, or any other crunchy snacks.

How to Make Chex Snack Mix

  1. We always mix our cereal first in a large mixing bowl.
  2. To bind all the ingredients together you need something wet, so we use melted butter.
  3. Don’t have taco seasoning? Use Lawry’s seasoned salt instead!
  4. Drizzle the spiced butter over the cereal mixture.
  5. It’s important to then microwave the snack mix to crisp up the cereal. Be sure to stir it often – and remember that all microwaves cook differently!

Storing

Once the snack mix is completely cool, store it in an airtight container or large resealable bag for up to a week at room temperature.
