This Hot Cocoa Mix is the ultimate recipe to have on hand during the holiday season and all winter long. It is easy to make and store – all you need to do is mix it with milk when you want some hot chocolate!

This hot chocolate mix recipe is one of my favorites to have on hand. Making this mix ahead of time ensures that you can have a glass of hot cocoa whenever you want. Throw away that store-bought hot cocoa and make this recipe! It’s even a great gift to give for Christmas.

Ingredients Needed

  • Cocoa Powder: Use unsweetened cocoa powder (you could use dutch-process cocoa for a richer chocolate flavor).
  • Powdered Sugar: Also known as confectioners sugar
  • Chocolate Chips: You’ll need to freeze them – the chocolate chips add such a richness to the mix.
  • Cornstarch: Works as a thickening agent for the hot chocolate.

How to make Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe

  • Place chocolate chips in a small bowl and freeze for 10 minutes. Then pulse the frozen chips in a food processor until they’re small bits.
  • Whisk chocolate chips bits with cocoa, powdered sugar, salt, and cornstarch in a large bowl.
  • Place mix in a large jar or airtight container.
  • To make hot chocolate: add hot milk (regular milk or nondairy milk) and 2 tablespoons mix to a mug. Stir and serve immediately.
