This Air Fryer Sweet Potato recipe is an easy side dish. Sweet potatoes are cooked whole in an air fryer and then split open and seasoned with a spicy-sweet spice topping. Pair them with your favorite main dishes like steak, chicken, or pork chops for a delicious dinner.

If you love baked sweet potatoes but don’t want to use up oven space, you can use your air fryer to cook them. It’s an easy way to make seasoned potatoes for holiday meals, but it’s easy enough for weeknight dinners, too.

I love this dish because the potatoes have a natural sweetness and pair great with a chili spice rub for extra flavor. So you get the salty-sweet-spicy flavor combination, and it’s so good.

When you air fry them, the potatoes get a nice crispy skin on the outside and are soft and fluffy on the inside once cooked. Plus, you don’t have to use any olive oil.

I make these for easy meals, but we’ve made them for holiday dinners, too. So if you want to switch up that sweet potato casserole for a lighter, healthier side dish, you should give these air fryer sweet potatoes a try.

Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Brown sugar
  • Salt
  • Paprika
  • Chili Powder

  • Butter
  • Drizzle of honey

How to Cook Sweet Potatoes in an Air Fryer

Fit the potatoes in the air fryer basket, so they are in a single layer. Cook them at 375°F for 20 minutes.

While they cook, mix the brown sugar, salt, paprika, chili powder, and garlic powder in a bowl.

After the potatoes have been air-fried for 20 minutes, split them open and top them with the brown sugar mixture. Cook them for seven to ten minutes longer or until they are fork-tender.

Serve them hot with butter and honey for topping.

Recipe Variations

There are a lot of options for toppings. Instead of honey, try a dollop of sour cream, some salsa, a pinch of black pepper, and some chopped cilantro.

Or, try the honey along with a few sprinkles of cinnamon and chopped toasted pecans for some crunch.

Sometimes I skip the spice mixture and cook the potatoes plain. Once cooked, I top them with some chili and toppings like shredded cheese and sliced green onions.

Tips

You can cook them ahead for meal prep and keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days.

You can also use this air fryer method to cook regular potatoes, but you may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the size.

Serve them with your favorite main dishes. We love them with steak, baked chicken, and pork chops. They also go great with baked ham and roast turkey. I love air fryer recipes because they’re so easy, and these air fryer sweet potatoes are no exception. So if you want an easy way to cook baked potatoes, it’s a great recipe to try. Enjoy!
