A Virgin Kir Royale is the drink for a celebration or fun night out. It’s a mocktail champagne cocktail and it’s as good as the real thing but it’s totally non-alcoholic!

Two tall glasses of red cocktail, each garnished with a lemon twist, are placed on a gray surface. A green bottle is partially visible in the background.

Like most people, I love having champagne during the holidays. A Kir Royale cocktail is a New Years Eve staple, but this virgin kir royale allows anyone and everyone who wants some champagne to enjoy it, even the kids.

It is made with two simple ingredients and this drink can be put together in seconds. Between pomegranate juice and white grape juice, this drink is a delicious substitute for champagne. I fell in love with these drinks years and years ago and I enjoy this mocktail version just as much!

A bottle of Welchs Sparkling White Grape juice stands next to a bottle of POM Wonderful pomegranate juice. A lemon rests in front of them, all placed on a gray countertop with a white tiled wall in the background.

Ingredient Notes

  • Pomegranate Juice is what I’m using to substitute for the cream de cassis or chambord. The non-sweetened juice pairs perfectly with the sparkling juice, which is sweeter than normal sparkling wine.
  • Sparkling White Grape Juice: Or you can substitute sparkling cider.

How to make Virgin Champagne

  • Add pom juice to a champagne flute.
  • Top off with sparkling juice. Garnish with lemon. Serve immediately.

Expert Tips

  • I like using pom juice because it’s not sweet, so it cuts the sweetness of the sparkling juice, whereas a traditional Kir Royale uses sweet liqueur with dry champagne (so it’s the opposite for the mocktail).
  • Serve immediately upon pouring.
  • As is classic, serve with a lemon slice or twirl.
