Cake mix cookies are such an EASY cookie recipe. When you use my recipe, they’re gooey and soft and no one will ever know they’re from a mix!

These cookies have just a four ingredients and it’s easy to change up the flavors. Chocolate cake mix cookies become vanilla or spice or red velvet with just the switch of a cake mix. You can use any cake mix to make these cookies, but I love making Duncan Hines Cake Mix Cookies or sometimes I use Pillsbury Devil’s Food cake mix. Really, you can use ANY chocolate cake mix you love.

Awhile back, cake mix companies changed the size of the cake mix boxes. Don’t worry, this cake mix cookie recipe is written for the new 15.25 ounce size box.

You can fill your cookies with anything you like, but I used chocolate chips. The gooey cookie with the melty chocolate chips are the perfect cure for your chocolate craving. But if you love M&Ms or peanut butter cups, you can use whatever mix-ins you like.

Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies are such an easy cookie recipe with just 4 ingredients!

How do you make cookies from a cake mix?

You just need 4 ingredients:

  • Cake Mix, any flavor
  • Oil or melted butter
  • Eggs
  • Mix-ins, like chocolate chips.

So, really, only THREE ingredients if you skip the chocolate chips. But why would you?

Have you ever wondered how to make cake mix better?

My answer to that is MAKE COOKIES OUT OF IT!

When it comes to ingredients, I usually use oil for these cookies because it’s easier, but if I want a buttery cookie flavor I’ll use melted unsalted butter. I much prefer melted butter in all my cookies because they’re easier to mix and the flavor is better.

Another thing I love about these cookies? You can freeze them!

I love freezing cookies to save for later. Then we have cookies all the time and I can make ahead for holidays!

  1. Making right now and it was super easy!! I’m thinking the calorie count is off though as each of my 24 cookies had 165 calories each.

  2. Sure would help if you included high altitude adjustments …???? i jotted down the general “go-to” ingredient additions and amounts of each that’s a success for most box mixes
    ..
    + 2T flour
    + 1/4C additional water
+ 1/4C additional oil (OR butter)

    1. I too, live above 5k ft. (high altitude). I simply added 2 _teaspoons_ of flour and these turned out amazing! Almost too simple! Thank you for sharing this recipe!

  3. I love making cake mixm cookies, but every time I use a chocolate cake mix, the cookies fall. Doesn’t happen with other flavors of cake mix. What am I doing wrong?

I made these for my family and they were absolutely delicious! Super easy, had some left over Pillsbury chocolate cake mix and whipped these up super quickly. I left mine in the oven for about 11 1/2 – 12 minutes and they were perfect! Added some chocolate frosting and they were gone so fast. Highly recommend for those who don’t want to make a whole cake or just want to try something new!

Found you via Pinterest. I used a Betty Crocker triple chocolate fudge cake mix and melted butter rather than the oil. For my one cup of chips I used a mix of white chocolate and milk chocolate chips. The cookie is amazing. Never a huge fan of the cake mix cookie other than the lemon, but this has changed my mind! So easy and delish. Yum. ( I always add in a splash or two of vanilla to all my cookie batters.) Thank you!

Easy enough to make. I do not recommend substituting m&m’s for chocolate chips – the melted chocolate makes a big difference

  7. So easy to make. They look pretty and tast great! I added peanut butter chips to the mix. They were so good with a glass of ice cold milk!!

  8. Recipe calls for 15 oz cake mix. What you purchase is only 13.25 ounces cake mix. How can you adjust?
