PIN IT NOW TO SAVE FOR LATER!
Growing up I loved having piñatas at birthday parties. We’d make them out of balloons and paper mâché and paint them and then mom would fill them with candy. Once in awhile we’d get a real piñata from the store, but mostly they were homemade.
The first time my daughter and I attended a birthday party when she was young, the piñata had pull strings. I was flabbergasted; what’s the fun of a piñata if you don’t use a bat? Then I watched a hoard 4 year olds running around at the party and realized bats are weapons and man, our parents were nuts.
As an adult, I love buying piñatas for parties and using them as decoration…and I love making piñata cakes and cupcakes!

Piñata Cupcake are regular cupcakes filled with sprinkles. When you take a bite, the sprinkles erupt like candy from a piñata!

Remember when we posted Fireworks Cupcakes? Those were full of red, white, and blue sprinkles. You can use any color sprinkle you want. Make these rainbow or themed for Halloween or use the colors of your favorite sports team. Making these for a Kate Spade Party? Maybe use hot pink, white and black. The options are endless.
You can make your favorite cupcakes from scratch or use your favorite flavor box mix. Use a box of frosting or make your own; just make your favorite.
How do you make a Piñata Cupcake?
All you need to do is hollow out the center of the cupcake. Cut a small circle and hollow out the center. Pour in the sprinkles then replace part of the cupcake you removed. Once the cupcake is frosted you won’t see the cutout and the piñata center will be a surprise!
My favorite cupcake is vanilla with vanilla frosting, but I can see doing this for any themed party or as a chocolate cake or even red velvet!
