How to Make Cola Burgers
- Making the sauce: For the sauce, mix all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Let it come to a boil. Reduce temperature to medium-low heat and let boil/simmer for about 8-10 minutes or until it has thickened a little bit.
- Forming the patties: While the sauce is cooking, divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and form into patties. Salt and pepper the patties.
- Prepping the sauce: When the sauce is finished pour it into a bowl and let it cool. Take a portion of the sauce and set it aside to use after cooking.
- Cooking burger patties: Pre-heat Barbecue to 400°F. Brush the patties with some sauce on both sides. Place patties on the grill. Depending on thickness it should take about 5 minutes per side. Brush on the sauce every couple of minutes. Brush the top side with the sauce once more. With about a minute to go flip the burger again, just long enough to let the sauce cook into the burger.
- Adding flavor to the burger: Use the remaining sauce to put on your buns for more flavor.
- Serve and top: Serve on hamburger buns with your favorite toppings: Lettuce, tomato, onion. You can also add cheese at the end to melt if you prefer.
Expert Tips
Make sure to keep a close eye on your patties while they are cooking, because of the added sugar from the cola they are at a higher risk of burning, sugar tends to cook quick.
If you are cooking these inside and not on a grill but still want to achieve that charbroiled flavor, add a dash of liquid smoke. It will give that smokey flavor that you get from grilling!
