I don’t know about you, but I love lemonade – I think it is the perfect drink all year long. I also love blackberries, so a blackberry lemonade just makes sense.

This is a delicious and refreshing drink that you have to try if you love blackberries, lemon, and lime and it’s perfect because it’s easy to make anytime you want. No cooking or cooling time needed you can make this drink in minutes whenever you’re craving it.

A bottle of Simply Lemonade is surrounded by a lemon, a lime, a bowl of blackberries, and a bowl of sugar. All items are placed on a gray surface with a white tiled background.

Ingredient Notes

  • Lemonade: You can make homemade lemonade or buy store-bought, any brand or flavor.
  • Sugar: We’ll need a bit of granulated sugar to muddle the blackberries with. You could also use simple syrup instead.
  • Blackberries: Fresh is best, but you can also use thawed frozen blackberries.

Variations

Because this recipe isn’t cooked, it’s so easy to vary it to your liking. You can use sugar-free lemonade or any brand/flavor you like. You can even use a sugar substitute for muddling the fruit. And speaking of fruit – feel free to swap strawberries or blueberries for blueberry lemonade!

How to make A Blackberry Lemon Smash

  1. First you’ll muddle the berries with the white sugar to break them up and macerate them. You can use a small potato masher or fork if you don’t have a muddler.
  2. I love using fresh lemon and lime juice, so use a juicer if you have one to get the most juice from your fruit.
  3. Adding the fresh juice gives a brightness to the drink – stir it with the muddled berries and lemonade.

Expert Tips

  • We like using pulp free lemonade.
  • If you prefer just the berry juice and not the pulp and seeds, you can muddle them with the sugar then push it through a fine-mesh sieve to strain.
  • Garnish with fresh berries, fresh mint, and lemon slices.
