Jicama fries are a great way to satisfy a French fry craving, but instead of using potatoes, the fries are made with fresh jicama. It has a similar texture and gets crispy when you cook it, especially if you use an air fryer.

I’ve made quite a few Weight Watchers air fryer recipes lately, and it is fun to come up with alternatives for higher-calorie, less healthy dishes. This jicama fries recipe is always a favorite, and you don’t have to be on WW to enjoy it.

What is Jicama?

Jicama is a type of vegetable from Mexico, although it’s now grown in many parts of the world. It has a crispy and juicy texture that is similar to a potato. However, the flavor is a little sweeter.

We are slicing jicama into fries for this recipe, seasoning them so they have a kick of heat, and then cooking them in the air fryer until crispy. Then, you can serve them like regular fries with your favorite sauces.

How to Make Jicama Fries

Place the fries in a large bowl. Coat them with cooking spray and then toss them, so they are coated evenly.

Sprinkle all of the seasonings over the fries and gently toss them so the spices are evenly coating them. The easiest way to do this is with your hands.

Heat the air fryer to 375°F and spray the basket with cooking spray.

Place the seasoned fries in a single layer in the basket. Don’t stack the fries; otherwise, they won’t cook evenly. If needed, cook them in separate batches.

Cook the jicama fries for 15 to 20 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through the cooking time to flip them over. They are done when they are golden and crispy around the edges.

Dipping Sauce Ideas

Feel free to experiment with sauces – many will pair well with air fryer jicama fries. Here are a few we enjoy:

  • Greek yogurt dip flavored with garlic, herbs, and lemon juice.
  • Salsa verde or regular salsa
  • Garlic aioli
  • Guacamole
