If you’ve ever wondered about how to make restaurant-style salsa at home, look no further because this is the recipe you need!
We absolutely love salsa and all things Mexican food in our house. We eat tacos weekly and usually end up at a Mexican restaurant at least a few times a month. The highlight of my Mexican meals is always the salsa!
I’m very picky about my salsa: I love it hot but not too hot, juicy and not too thick, and it has to be fresh. I also prefer a blended salsa and not a chunky one. I’ve tried many jarred salsas over the years and only one passes my test (it’s from Trader Joe’s).
Once I realized how easy it is to make your own homemade salsa at home I stopped buying it altogether. This salsa is so good with chips or on chicken or anytime you’re craving a spicy dip. My homemade salsa recipe is so simple and has just a few ingredients.
How do you make a simple salsa at home?
It’s easy: with your blender! Again, I like a thinner salsa, not a chunky one. That’s why blender salsa is the perfect thing for me. You simply throw all your ingredients into your blender and puree until you get your desired chunkiness.
Simple Homemade Salsa starts with a can of whole peeled tomatoes. I prefer to use the canned because preparing all the tomatoes takes so much time, and if you use a very good quality tomato it’ll be just as good as fresh. The rest of the ingredients all from the produce and spice aisle, including onions and garlic, jalapeños and cilantro.
I’m someone who could wear cilantro perfume, I love it so much. I cannot get enough of the rich and intoxicating scent of the fresh herb, but my husband, not so much. He dislikes cilantro but still likes my salsa! If you’re someone who dislikes cilantro you can reduce it, leave it out, or substitute flat Italian parsley. When I make this salsa for myself, I add double the cilantro!
Another thing about homemade salsa: you get to control the spice. Have you ever wondered what spices go in salsa? For me, just a few simple ones you probably already have in your pantry.
